Abdolnasser Hemmati, governor of Iran's Central Bank, said on Sunday, Shahrivar 1, 1405 (August 23, 2026), on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting, in remarks carried by Fars News Agency, that the central bank is supplying foreign currency "morning to night" and applying monetary policy, and urged people to pay no attention to what he called "rumor mongering." The remarks came the same day the free market dollar in Tehran, up nearly 7,200 tomans (3.74 percent) from the previous day as of 19:59 Tehran time, crossed the 200,000 toman mark, while gold and coin prices also set fresh records. Hemmati has repeatedly said in recent days that the central bank has supplied more foreign currency this year than in the same period last year.
