Russia extends its gasoline and diesel export ban through the end of January 2027
31 July 2026 · 2 months ago
The Russian government has extended its full ban on fuel exports. Under the decision announced on 30 and 31 July 2026, the new restriction runs from 1 August through 31 January 2027. The previous restriction had been due to expire on 31 July.
The ban covers gasoline, diesel, marine fuel and gas oil, and its stated aim is to stabilise Russia's domestic fuel market. From 1 September, however, the restriction will no longer apply to diesel, marine fuel and gas oil exported from Russian territory by direct producers. Exports are also permitted under intergovernmental agreements and for humanitarian assistance based on government decisions.
The backdrop is pressure on Russia's refining infrastructure following Ukrainian drone strikes. Extending the fuel export ban of one of the world's largest refined product exporters tightens global diesel supply, which feeds into oil product prices and refining margins worldwide.
