Russia extends its petrol and diesel export ban to 31 January 2027

The Russian government said in a statement on Thursday, 30 July 2026, that it had extended its ban on diesel and petrol exports to 31 January 2027. The ban covers petrol, diesel, marine fuel and gasoil, and its stated aim is to keep the domestic fuel market stable.
Moscow had first imposed the diesel ban from 8 to 31 July 2026. Repeated Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries have caused fuel shortages and price increases in the country's domestic market. Restrictions on petrol and jet fuel exports had already been in place before this decision.
Under the measure, producers will be exempt from the diesel, marine fuel and gasoil restrictions from 1 September 2026. Some fuel exports will continue under intergovernmental agreements and as humanitarian aid, and a temporary arrangement runs to 1 November 2026 to secure fuel supplies for farmers during the harvest season.
