Russia's Syzran refinery in the Samara region was struck by several Ukrainian attack drones in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad 1405). According to Fars News Agency, reflected by Donya e Eqtesad, NASA's FIRMS satellite monitoring system detected a large fire at the refinery site following the attack.
The strike continues a sustained campaign of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refining infrastructure, which the Financial Times had previously reported has taken half of Russia's refining capacity offline. According to Oilprice.com, citing Reuters, Russian refinery throughput fell in July to its lowest level since 2002, at 3.6 million barrels a day, more than 30 percent below the seasonal average.
