Saudi Oil Exports to the US Fell to Zero in July for the First Time Since 1985
8 August 2026 | 2 months ago
US government data published by Bloomberg, and reported inside Iran by Bourse News and Khabaronline on Friday, August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad 1405), showed that US oil imports from Saudi Arabia fell to zero in July 2026, the first full month with no such imports since 1985. According to the report, US refiners had been buying more than 600,000 barrels a day of Saudi crude in the early months of this year, but that flow has now stopped entirely.
Bloomberg attributed the shift directly to the US Iran war, which has all but halted the movement of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz. US refiners have turned to alternative sources, including domestically produced light crude, to offset the drop in Saudi supply, the report said.
