The S&P 500 closed at a fresh record of 7,798.99 on Thursday, August 13, 2026 (22 Mordad 1405), up 0.65 percent, crossing the 7,800 mark for the first time in its history. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.81 percent to 26,803.03, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.13 percent, or 69.72 points, to close at 53,839.99.
According to CNBC, the rally followed a softer than expected US producer price index (PPI) reading for July, which, alongside Wednesday's consumer price index (CPI) report, reduced the odds of another Federal Reserve rate hike at the September meeting. A simultaneous decline in global oil prices also helped lift trader sentiment.
