Saudi Arabia Asked for Regional Oman Meeting on Strait of Hormuz to Be Postponed

Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, said on Monday, September 14, 2026, that a meeting planned for the same day in Muscat among the foreign ministers of Iran, Oman, the Gulf Cooperation Council states and Iraq on Strait of Hormuz security was postponed at Saudi Arabia's request. He said the region's countries were expected to value this opportunity, and that pointing to the wrong address will not solve Yemen's problems. Baghaei said an understanding between Iran and Oman on a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, known as the temporary traffic separation plan, has been finalized, and the two countries are consulting on how to formally announce it. The meeting had originally been scheduled for September 14, 2026 in Muscat. Tension around Strait of Hormuz security has been a main driver of upward pressure on gold and dollar prices in Iran's market in recent days.
