8 October 2026 · 19 hours ago
Saudi Arabia's energy minister said oil flows through the East-West Pipeline (Petroline) have returned to 5.8 million barrels a day. Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman told a forum in Manama, Bahrain, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 (14 Mehr 1405), that the pipeline resumed operating within five to six days of a major attack on it and that as of that morning it was back at 5.8 million barrels a day. Al Jazeera attributes the early-September drone strike to Iraqi militias.

The 1,200 km pipeline links Saudi Arabia's eastern oil fields to the Red Sea port of Yanbu and has a maximum capacity of 7 million barrels a day. Al Jazeera, citing Kpler data, says actual flows were about 2 million barrels a day in August, the lowest monthly level since January, because Houthi attacks had made the Red Sea route difficult to use. Since the disruption to oil transit through the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia has been sending about 4 million barrels a day, close to 4 percent of global supply, to Yanbu by this route. The return to 5.8 million barrels marks a recovery of one of the main bypass routes around Hormuz; even so, Brent rose above $105 on Thursday, 16 Mehr.
