Secondary trading of the central bank's coin forward securities, which launched on the Iran Mercantile Exchange (IME) on September 12, 2026 (21 Shahrivar 1405), reached 10.5 million units in its first two trading days, equal to 10,500 full Bahar Azadi gold coins worth 2.4 trillion tomans (24,000 billion rials), according to Kala Khabar, the IME's own news outlet.
The new instrument lets holders of coin forward securities cash out or trade their holdings before maturity in the exchange's secondary market, shifting part of gold and coin market demand from the informal cash market onto the regulated exchange.
