Severe flooding in Golestan damages farmland and a railway line, closing the Bandar-e Gaz route
30 July 2026 | 3 months ago
The spokesperson for Iran's National Disaster Management Organization said on the evening of Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), that severe flooding in Golestan province has damaged farmland and a railway line. Omid Mohtarami said flooding along the Bandar-e Gaz to Baghou-Kenareh route has blocked both the road and the railway track because of a heavy volume of sediment along with tree branches and trunks.
He said the incident has caused no loss of life so far, but the large volume of sediment has damaged farmland in the area. The flooding was attributed to intense localised rainfall in the upstream heights and mountainous districts.
Dredging and clearing work on the bridge openings and the route is under way with 4 excavators, one loader, 2 graders, 3 trucks and local equipment including tractors. Because of the volume of mud and the incomplete safety of the road, traffic is being routed via the alternative Bandar-e Gaz to Kordkuy highway.
