Iran's oil minister says the ministry aims to restore most of the lost gas capacity before the cold season

30 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Mohsen Paknejad, Iran's oil minister, said on Wednesday, 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405), on the sidelines of the Supreme Energy Council meeting that the oil ministry is making every effort to return a major part of the restrictions created in gas production to the production cycle before the cold season begins. He added that given the remaining constraints, decisions had to be taken on managing consumption across different sectors.

According to the same report, Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah, the president's executive deputy, had earlier told a crisis management committee meeting for the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone in Assaluyeh (20 July 2026, 29 Tir 1405) that the attacks removed about 230 million cubic metres from the country's gas production capacity, a significant figure compared with national output of roughly 650 million cubic metres, adding to the pre-existing gas shortfall.

At that meeting Ghaempanah forecast that 100 million cubic metres of this capacity would return to production within a few months. Reconstruction work is proceeding in phases and relies on the technical capability of domestic specialists. He also said that none of the country's oil and gas jetties were shut down.
