The Statistical Center of Iran reported that chicken meat produced at licensed slaughterhouses fell 24 percent year on year in Khordad 1405 (roughly 22 May to 21 June 2026), to about 169,239 tons. The figures circulated in Iran's business press on Saturday, 25 July 2026.
According to the report, about 85,962,000 birds were slaughtered at licensed facilities in Khordad 1405, against 117,849,000 birds, or 226,640 tons, in the same month of 1404. Total poultry meat of all types slaughtered in Khordad 1405 came to roughly 174,854 tons.
Chicken is one of the most widely consumed protein items in the Iranian household basket, and a drop in supply during the hot months typically feeds through to retail prices.
