According to Ministry of Agriculture Jihad data, chicken meat output fell from 230,000 tons in Khordad 1404 to 174,000 tons in Khordad this year, a 25 percent drop in the supply of chicken to the market. As reported by Fars News Agency and carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Thursday, August 20, 2026 (29 Mordad 1405), chicken prices rose after the removal of the preferential exchange rate and higher input costs, though the ministry has not yet published figures on any change in household consumption since that removal.
Per the report, Agriculture Jihad Minister Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh said at a news conference three days earlier that the country "no longer needs to import chicken meat" and has now entered an export phase. The report said that despite the absence of imports and the simultaneous export of chicken, no shortage is visible in the market.
