Tehran's mayor presses Beijing to speed up delivery of Chinese metro cars
26 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Meeting China's ambassador in Tehran on Sunday 26 July 2026 (4 Mordad 1405), Tehran's mayor said the Iranian side has fulfilled its domestic obligations under the metro-car purchase contract and called for the delivery of the cars to the capital to be accelerated. He said cooperation between Tehran and Beijing needs to move from memoranda of understanding to operational projects.
The supply contract for Chinese metro cars is one of the open files in the expansion of Tehran's metro fleet. No delivery date was announced at the meeting.
Part of Iran's urban rail equipment is sourced from China, and the pace at which such contracts are executed depends on the payment and currency-transfer mechanisms between the two countries.
