Tesla delivers 480,000 vehicles in Q2 but BYD keeps the EV crown

Tesla said in a release on 2 July that it delivered about 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter of 2026, up 25 percent from a year earlier and ahead of market expectations. Even so, China's BYD retained its position as the world's largest seller of fully electric vehicles, with 557,090 battery-electric sales over the same period; BYD's lead was roughly 77,000 vehicles.
