Iran's free currency market opened on Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405) with a fresh record. Daily newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad reported the same day that the free market dollar had set a new record and entered the 194,000 toman channel. Live market data at 09:50 Tehran time on Sunday 11 Mordad showed the US dollar selling at 194,100 toman and bid at 192,150 toman. The last rate recorded in Sahmino's own price feed, on the evening of Saturday 10 Mordad 1405, was 193,700 toman.
Tether moved the other way. According to the same report, the stablecoin first climbed into the upper half of the 195,000 toman channel, then retreated to around 190,000 toman after new claims emerged that a military strike on Iran had been postponed. The divergence between banknotes and the stablecoin shows how sensitive the currency market is to political and security news, since tether typically reacts faster than the cash market.
Other free market rates at 09:50 on Sunday 11 Mordad included the UAE dirham at 52,470 toman, the euro at 223,800 toman and the Turkish lira at 4,150 toman, all on the sell side.
