The gap between Iran's free market dollar and the remittance dollar widens to about 26 percent

Eghtesad Online reported in the early hours of Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405) that the free market dollar had reached 192,000 toman while the remittance dollar rate was quoted at 152,000 toman, leaving a gap of about 26 percent between the two.
Official platform data confirms the same spread. The Iran Currency and Gold Exchange Centre remittance sell rate stood at 152,977 toman at 09:52 Tehran time on Sunday 11 Mordad, while the free market dollar sell rate at the same hour was 194,100 toman. The remittance sell rate was up 0.24 percent from the previous day.
The gap between the official and free rates is a traditional gauge of stress in Iran's currency market. The wider it grows, the stronger the incentive for importers to obtain currency at the official rate while pricing goods off the free rate, which feeds through to the landed cost of imported goods and to inflation expectations.
