The Khorramshahr to Basra passenger sea line will restart before Arbaeen and continue afterwards
26 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Valfajr Shipping Company said the Khorramshahr to Basra passenger sea line will be restarted as the Arbaeen period approaches, in a report published by Mehr News Agency on Sunday 26 July 2026. The stated aim is to ease pilgrim travel and reduce pressure on road routes.
According to the report, the annual rise in pilgrim traffic through land borders around Arbaeen, particularly the Mehran crossing, creates heavy congestion on the roads leading to it, and the sea route can help spread journeys more evenly.
The line will not be limited to the Arbaeen period: services will continue afterwards on a regular basis in order to develop maritime passenger transport between Iran and Iraq. Tickets will be sold through the Khorramshahr passenger terminal and the company's authorised agencies and representatives.
