Trump-Linked Tokenized Maldives Hotel Project Halted Amid Regional Tensions
15 August 2026 | 2 months ago
According to Arzdigital, World Liberty Financial, the Trump family's cryptocurrency venture, has suspended its plan to launch the world's first tokenized luxury hotel in the Maldives because of military tensions in West Asia and their impact on flight routes. The project, planned with partners Securitize and Dar Global, was to offer income from digital assets through tokens called MALD1, but has been thrown into uncertainty by a 23 percent drop in tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
CoinDesk separately confirmed the news, reporting that the token sale's delay was caused by air travel disruption from the Iran war. The platform's governance token, WLFI, has fallen 83 percent from its high of $0.33 to around $0.05.
