Bitcoin Miners' Fee Revenue Share Falls to Lowest Since 2016

According to Bourse News, in a report published Thursday, August 13, 2026 (22 Mordad 1405), data from on chain analytics platform Glassnode shows the share of transaction fees in bitcoin miners' total revenue has fallen to 0.52 percent, the lowest level since 2016. Glassnode said the last time this share was this low, bitcoin's price was below 400 dollars. The platform said rising electricity costs across much of the world have also squeezed mining profitability and pushed smaller miners out of the market.
According to the crypto news site that carried the report, data from analytics firm Checkonchain shows the average cost to produce one bitcoin reached 78,254 dollars as of August 11 (20 Mordad), about 23 percent above the cryptocurrency's spot price at the time. Bitcoin's price has fallen by nearly half from its all time high of 126,000 dollars set last October, and some large miners, including Riot Platforms and Hut 8, have shifted their operations toward AI data centers.
