Trump Says a Diesel Export Ban Is Being Considered "Very Seriously"
28 September 2026 · 11 days ago
US President Donald Trump told Fox News on Sunday, September 27, 2026 (5 Mehr 1405), that he is still looking "very seriously" at banning diesel exports to fight high fuel prices in the United States, adding "we may do it." According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing ISNA, the stance runs against efforts by some of his officials to avoid such a step.
US retail diesel prices hit a record average of about $6.50 a gallon last week, and US diesel exports reached a weekly record of nearly 2 million barrels a day last month. Lawmakers from farm states have urged export curbs during the autumn harvest, while oil companies have proposed suspending the federal excise tax on diesel instead. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said last week the administration was working with refiners on voluntary export limits. Disrupted fuel flows through the Strait of Hormuz and strikes on Russian refineries are cited as drivers of the global diesel shortfall.
