Trump Says US Interest Rate Should Be One Percent or Lower
17 September 2026 · 22 days ago
The White House and US President Donald Trump reacted on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, hours after the Federal Reserve raised its target interest rate by 25 basis points to a range of 3.75 to 4 percent. White House senior spokesperson Kush Desai told Fox News the decision was wrong, saying the administration saw no convincing economic justification for it. Desai said current US inflation stems from an energy supply shock and the ongoing war in the Middle East, not factors tied to interest rates.

Trump, in a separate reaction, said the US interest rate should be one percent or lower. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, at a press conference following the decision, declined to directly address a question about the White House's reaction, saying he had nothing to say on the matter.
