17 July 2026 | 3 months ago
TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, said on Thursday, July 16, 2026, that it will add another $100 billion to its US investment, lifting its total commitment to $265 billion. The White House and the US Commerce Department confirmed the increase.
According to the Commerce Department, the new sum will fund up to four more plants, bringing TSMC's US facilities to 12, focused on 2 nanometer chips. The announcement came alongside second-quarter results: net profit jumped 77% to a record 706.6 billion New Taiwan dollars (about $22 billion), and the company raised its 2026 revenue growth forecast to slightly above 40%.
On Friday, July 17, TSMC shares fell 6.1% and Taiwan's overall market dropped 5.9%, as part of the market grew cautious about the heavy capital spending the plan implies.
