Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart reported by Tasnim News Agency on Thursday, August 13, 2026 (22 Mordad 1405) and carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad, stressed the need for urgent solutions to the Strait of Hormuz crisis and its damaging effects on global trade and energy. The remarks came as Turkey, a regional energy importer, has been affected by the disruption to shipping through the strait since Iran's war began in February 2026 (Esfand 1404).

Fidan did not detail Turkey's proposed solution, but his comments add to a series of regional diplomatic reactions to the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, a standoff that ship tracking data shows has cut daily transits through the strait from roughly 130 to 140 vessels before the war to fewer than ten a day.
