According to Reuters, US Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff, in a letter dated 28 July 2026 (6 Mordad 1405) to Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins, asked the regulator to examine whether a plan by Trump Media (TMTG), the parent of Truth Social, to sell early access to Donald Trump's posts breaks the law. Trump Media unveiled a paid, licensed data feed this month giving trading firms «the fastest» access to posts from the 10 most influential Truth Social accounts, including Trump's.
Reuters reported that Trump Media has discussed charging as much as $100,000 a month for the Truth API product. The company said it had signed up customers ahead of the 1 August launch but did not identify them. Trump owns about 41% of Trump Media through a trust overseen by his children. A spokesperson for the SEC confirmed receiving the letter but declined to comment further.
In their letter, Warren and Schiff wrote that the arrangement appears to be an outrageous abuse of the president's office for his personal benefit that undermines everyday investors and the integrity of the markets. They also noted that Trump has previously used Truth Social to endorse specific stocks including Citigroup, Intel and Palantir. A spokesperson for Trump Media responded that Senate Democrats are mischaracterising Truth API, adding that the senators appear to have invented a new theory of insider trading based on publicly available information. The White House referred questions to the company.
