According to Khabaronline, citing Fars News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday, 15 Mordad 1405 (6 August 2026), that Ukrainian forces struck oil refineries in Russia's Bashkortostan republic and Yaroslavl region in long range drone attacks. Images released from the strike showed columns of black smoke over the city of Yaroslavl. The governor of Yaroslavl called it the largest enemy drone attack yet and said 93 drones were shot down, though falling drone debris damaged some oil storage tanks. Russia's military said a total of 605 Ukrainian drones were intercepted and destroyed across several regions, including Yaroslavl.
Zelensky also said two Russian military patrol boats and several vessels belonging to Russia's so called shadow fleet were struck in the Black Sea. Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil infrastructure, including refineries and fuel depots, in recent weeks, a campaign that had already pushed Russian crude refining to its lowest level in more than two decades. The strikes are among the factors that have contributed to the recent rise in global oil prices.
