US 30-Year Treasury Yield Hits Highest Since 2004 as Gold and Bitcoin Retreat

24 September 2026 · 13 days ago

The yield on the 30-year US Treasury bond rose more than 3 basis points to about 5.444% in trading on Thursday, September 24, 2026, its highest level since 2004. According to EcoIran, the 10-year yield also reached around 5.1%, near its highest since 2007. Japan's 10-year yield was reported at about 3.07% and Britain's at about 5.35%. Brent crude holding around $100 and expectations of further Federal Reserve hikes, after the Fed raised rates by 25 basis points at its September meeting, were cited as drivers.

The pressure spread to other markets. According to EcoIran and ArzDigital, gold fell about 0.7% on the same day to around $4,260 an ounce, the US dollar index rose to about 101.2, its highest since July, and bitcoin slipped to about $83,300. Nasdaq 100 futures fell more than 1% and S&P 500 futures about 0.6%. Higher dollar yields and a firmer dollar tend to raise the cost of holding gold and feed through the global ounce price into Iran's domestic gold market.
