US, Japanese and European Government Bond Yields Hit Multi Decade Highs
6 September 2026 · last month
Government bond yields in the United States, Japan, Germany, Britain and France hit their highest levels in decades during the week ending Saturday, September 5, 2026 (14 Shahrivar 1405). According to TGJU (Gold and Currency Information Network), high budget deficits in major economies are a key driver of the rise. Trading Economics data on the morning of Sunday, September 6 (15 Shahrivar), showed the US 10 year Treasury yield at 4.79 percent, the UK 10 year gilt yield at 5.14 percent, Germany's 10 year Bund yield at 3.34 percent, and Japan's 10 year yield at 2.91 percent. Rising bond yields, which move inversely to bond prices, typically increase pressure on non yielding assets such as gold and on emerging market currencies.
