The rise came alongside higher US yields: Reuters reported that the US 10-year yield briefly reached about 5.23 percent on Friday, its highest since 2007. Higher bond yields in major economies feed through borrowing costs and the global dollar into world gold prices, and from there into Iran's gold and currency markets.
