The US State Department said in a statement on Friday, August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad 1405), that it has imposed new sanctions on a network of exchange houses and front companies linked to Iran. According to Khabaronline, citing Al Jazeera, the new measures aim to dismantle channels Washington alleges have helped Iran move hundreds of millions of dollars and evade existing sanctions.
A US official said in the statement: "We are making clear that any person, entity, or country that helps Iran evade sanctions will face very severe consequences." The State Department described the goal as deepening the isolation of Iran's financial system from the international system and closing off routes for financing abroad, and it pledged to work with regional and international partners to block all channels through which Iran accesses funds held overseas.
