US Treasury lists Iraqi carrier Fly Baghdad among counter terrorism sanctions removals
5 August 2026 | 3 months ago
The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, known as OFAC, published an action headed "Counter Terrorism Designations Removals and Update" on Wednesday 5 August 2026. The published list covers Fly Baghdad Airlines Company together with its alternative names Iraq Express and Fly Baghdad, and two of the carrier's Boeing 737 aircraft with tail numbers YI-BAF and YI-BAN.
Fly Baghdad had previously been listed under Executive Order 13224 with the SDGT tag and a reference to links with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Qods Force.
In the same action, the entry for Basheer Abdulkadhim Alwan al-Shabbani, an Iraqi national born on 1 May 1986, was updated so that he is now recorded as linked directly to the IRGC Qods Force rather than to Fly Baghdad. The changes alter the sanctions status of a company operating on the air corridor between Iran and Iraq.
