Vance: Iran Says It Will Not Collect Tolls for Hormuz Passage
8 August 2026 | 2 months ago
US Vice President JD Vance said in a Fox News interview on Saturday, August 8, 2026 that negotiations over the conflict surrounding Iran are still ongoing, stating "We are in the middle of the game... we're using diplomatic, economic and military tools to get the best outcome for the American people," Donya-e-Eqtesad reported citing Fars News. On the Strait of Hormuz, Vance said he expects oil and gas exports from the Persian Gulf to return to pre-war volumes once the conflict ends, adding "the Iranians told us they don't have a plan to collect tolls from the Strait of Hormuz." Vance also said Iran and Gulf states, particularly Oman, held talks last week on ensuring safe passage for ships through the strait, and that both sides are working on designing a traffic scheme for safe transit. His remarks come after Western media had earlier reported on plans to charge fees for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
