In its third-quarter 2026 demand report, the World Gold Council said central banks bought 321 tonnes of gold during the quarter, taking year-to-date purchases to 675 tonnes. Gold-backed ETFs added 211 tonnes in the same period, while global jewellery demand fell 17% year on year to 313 tonnes. The figures show institutional buying strengthening alongside weaker consumer demand; the data cover the period through September 2026.
