3 September 2026 · last month
According to Ecoiran, the Japanese yen strengthened more than 1.5 percent against the US dollar for a second straight day on Thursday, September 3, 2026 (12 Shahrivar 1405), with the dollar yen rate falling to 156.26, the yen's highest level in about a month. Sahmino's own live data showed the dollar yen rate at 155.82 as of 15:55 Tehran time, down 1.84 percent from the start of today's trading, consistent with the yen's strengthening trend.
Ecoiran, citing Bloomberg, reported that the Bank of Japan is leaning toward a 25 basis point rate hike at its two day meeting ending September 18, in response to rising price risks. BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda had earlier said the bank would debate a possible rate increase at its September meeting.
