Transcript

At midday on Saturday the first of August, Tehran's stock market shows two very different pictures of itself. The gap between the headline index and the equal weight index reached about one point one percentage points. By eleven o'clock the headline index was half a percent down while the equal weight index was six tenths up. The headline index is capitalisation weighted; a few large symbols can turn the whole gauge red. Today the securities regulator approved the directive on how listed companies revalue their assets. The market development fund has bought more than forty one trillion tomans of shares in forty six working days. In the cash gold and coin market, however, no fresh price was recorded by midday today. The mesghal has stayed inside a seventy six to eighty three million toman channel for about fifteen days. By contrast silver and Tether, which trade all day, both rose about seven tenths of a percent. At the commodity exchange, three hundred and fifty four thousand tonnes of product go on offer today. The official dollar sat near one hundred fifty three thousand tomans, while spot gold barely moved. Watch three things into the close: the index gap, the cash rate, and the offering results. The verdict today is clear: the market was not red, only its largest names were. So the answer: the headline index spoke for a few large companies, not the market. Full analysis on Sahmino.com.
