Iran's domestic markets are closed today, Friday 9 Mordad 1405 (31 July 2026), and board prices are still Thursday's. But the global market produced one big number: Brent crude trades near $85.50 this morning, about 20% above where it stood a month ago, though 13% below its 23 July peak. Domestically, the free-market dollar closed at 192,400 tomans and Tether, at about 193,200 tomans, moved above the cash dollar: the only currency thermometer that stays live through the two closed days.

Which number mattered more this week? The dollar, or oil? The answer may surprise you. Brent crude trades near eighty five and a half dollars today, twenty percent above a month ago. Why? Because the market has priced a premium for supply risk on shipping routes. Gold, silver and Bitcoin, though, each went their own separate way this morning. Here is the catch: oil is down thirteen percent from its ninety eight dollar peak. In the domestic market, the latest prices date to Thursday, the thirtieth of July. Because today is Friday, and Tehran's currency, gold and equity markets are closed. The only live thermometer is Tether, at about one hundred ninety three thousand tomans. Three maritime chokepoints are under pressure at once, and that makes this month different. For Tehran that means more currency income, but higher freight and insurance costs too. The Tehran exchange closed the week at five million seventy five thousand points. The week ahead: Saturday's reopening, the OPEC plus decision, and commodity offerings. So today's verdict is clear: this week's winner was oil, not the dollar. The answer: oil. Does it hold above eighty five dollars, or fall back below seventy five?
