Today, Saturday the first of August, Tehran's market reopens after two days on a contradiction. On Wednesday the equal-weight index closed at one million four hundred thirty two thousand points, a record. According to Sena, thirty six of the forty active industry indices rose over the past week. Yet the headline index, at five million seventy five thousand points, is four and a half percent below its peak. The headline index is driven by a few giants, while the equal-weight index reports the average share. Over the week the equal-weight index gained five point six six percent, the headline index three point nine one. The strongest weekly returns went to publishing and printing, other mining, and rubber and plastics. The free-market dollar closed Thursday at one hundred ninety two thousand four hundred tomans. But Tether this morning stands two thousand and eighty six tomans above the cash dollar. Gold and coins have not moved in two days, and the global ounce is almost completely flat. Last month, though, gold, silver and saffron funds topped the exchange return table. Brent crude is at eighty seven dollars and ninety three cents, and Bitcoin at sixty three thousand. Today the market reopens at nine, tomorrow OPEC plus meets, and Tuesday the exchange closes. The verdict is clear: this week's advance was broad, not heavy, in the smaller names.
