Emami Coin's Premium Falls to 189,000 Tomans Today Despite a Gold and Dollar Jump; Its Tightest Gap in Weeks (Thursday, September 3, 2026)

The Emami gold coin's premium (the gap between its market price and its melt value) fell today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, from about 1,107,000 tomans yesterday to just 189,000 tomans, despite an roughly 2.6 to 3 percent jump in 18 karat gold and the global gold ounce. The Emami gold coin rose 2.6 percent today, Thursday, September 3, 2026 (12 Shahrivar 1405), to 234,010,000 tomans, alongside a nearly 3 percent jump in domestic 18 karat gold and a rise in the global gold ounce above $4,440. Yet on the very same day, the gap between the coin's market price and its theoretical (melt) value, what this market calls the coin's "premium" or "bubble," fell to just 189,000 tomans, under a tenth of a percent of the coin's price and about 918,000 tomans below yesterday's level.

In other words, on a day when both gold and the dollar jumped and the coin's price might have been expected to rise in step, the coin's gap to its own intrinsic value did not widen. It narrowed.

Background

Tehran's stock exchange is closed today, Thursday, for the weekend (Thursday and Friday), but the gold, coin, dollar and crypto markets trade as usual. The Emami coin's premium has swung sharply in recent weeks: per Sahmino's own past reporting, it plunged 16.6 percent (about 602,000 tomans) overnight on August 16, 2026 (25 Mordad 1405), and fell to a floor of just 59,000 tomans on August 22 (31 Mordad), under a tenth of a percent of the coin's price. Yesterday evening, Wednesday, September 2 (11 Shahrivar), Sahmino's data showed the Emami coin at 227,990,000 tomans and 18 karat gold at 22,835,000 tomans as of 19:59 Tehran time; based on the pace of Sahmino's recorded changes, the coin's premium stood at roughly 1,107,000 tomans around the same hour yesterday.

Today at 16:59 Tehran time, Sahmino's data put the Emami coin's premium at 189,000 tomans, a drop of about 918,000 tomans from yesterday. Alanchand's live bubble gauge, at 20:05 today, showed the new design coin's market price at 234,000,000 tomans against a calculated theoretical value of 234,188,000 tomans, a gap of 188,000 tomans (0.08 percent) essentially matching Sahmino's figure.

The Numbers

  • Emami coin: 234,010,000 tomans, up 2.64 percent (6,020,000 tomans) from yesterday (Sahmino, today at 16:59).
  • Emami coin premium: 189,000 tomans today versus about 1,107,000 tomans yesterday, a drop of roughly 918,000 tomans (Sahmino, today at 16:59; consistent with Alanchand's 188,000-toman reading at 20:05 today).
  • Domestic 18 karat gold: 23,519,000 tomans, up 2.99 percent (Sahmino, today at 16:59); Ecoiran separately reported 23,432,000 tomans as of 15:59 today, up about 2.6 percent from the start of today's trading.
  • Free market dollar: 221,060 tomans, up just 0.53 percent (1,160 tomans) from yesterday (Sahmino, today at 16:59).
  • Global gold ounce: $4,448.11 as of 15:58 today, up 1.39 percent from $4,428 this morning, per Ecoiran; Alanchand's gauge showed $4,492.86 at 20:05 today, up 2.39 percent on the day.
  • Premiums on other coin denominations today, per Alanchand (20:05): the gram coin at 20.54 percent, the quarter coin at 12.37 percent and the half coin at 2.37 percent above their melt value, while the old-design Bahar Azadi coin traded 2.22 percent below its melt value.

Drivers

Today's main engine was the global gold market, not the domestic dollar: the free market dollar rose just 0.53 percent, while 18 karat gold gained 2.99 percent and the global ounce climbed about 2.4 percent. Per CNBC, also carried as a Sahmino news item, Wednesday's ADP report showed US private employers added just 38,000 jobs in August, short of the roughly 47,000 analysts expected and the smallest monthly gain since January; the weaker than expected data, by reinforcing bets on a Federal Reserve rate cut, pushed global gold higher into Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. Ecoiran likewise tied the rally directly to that report and a simultaneous pullback in US Treasury yields.

The narrowing premium is essentially the arithmetic result of that divergence: by definition, the coin's premium is the gap between its market price and its theoretical value (a function of the global ounce and the dollar). Because 18 karat gold, the input behind the coin's theoretical value, rose faster today (2.99 percent) than the Emami coin's own market price (2.64 percent), the coin's theoretical value gained on its market price and the gap between them, the premium, narrowed; the same pattern seen earlier on August 16 and August 22.

Outlook

Per Ecoiran and CNBC, markets are now watching Friday's official US nonfarm payrolls report, which could steer the Federal Reserve's next move on rates and, through that channel, the global gold ounce and, in turn, Iran's own gold and coin prices. This is not a firm prediction: recent weeks (particularly the premium's sharp swings on August 16 and August 22) show that how fast the coin's market price reacts to changes in its theoretical value varies from session to session.

Bottom Line

Today, Thursday, September 3, 2026, on a day when both gold and the dollar jumped, the gap between the Emami coin's price and its intrinsic value did not widen. It fell from about 1,107,000 tomans yesterday to 189,000 tomans today, one of its tightest levels in weeks. The reason is straightforward: the coin's theoretical value, driven by 18 karat gold, rose faster today than the coin's own market price. As long as domestic 18 karat gold keeps reacting this quickly to swings in the global ounce, the Emami coin's premium is likely to stay under about 200,000 tomans; by contrast, smaller coin denominations, especially the gram and quarter coins, still carry sizable double digit premiums.

What to Watch

  • Friday's official US nonfarm payrolls report and its effect on the global gold ounce, and through it, on Iran's domestic gold and coin prices.
  • Whether gold and coin dealers raise the Emami coin's price in coming sessions to close this gap, or the premium stays this low.
  • The divergence between coin denominations: why the gram and quarter coins still carry double digit premiums while the full coin has moved close to its intrinsic value.
