The Global Gold Ounce & Iranian Gold

A global gold quotation commonly uses US dollars per troy ounce of fine gold. A troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams and differs from the ordinary ounce used for other goods.

A global gold quotation commonly uses US dollars per troy ounce of fine gold. A troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams and differs from the ordinary ounce used for other goods. Iranian gram quotations also specify purity and local currency. Convert units and purity before interpreting the gap. Benchmark prices, continuously traded quotations and local retail offers can be observed at different times. A mathematical metal value does not include a particular seller’s manufacturing charge, tax, assay uncertainty or delivery conditions.

Worked example (hypothetical)

If the dollar ounce price rises 4% and the local dollar quote falls 3%, the local fine-gold component changes by 1.04 × 0.97 − 1 = +0.88%. Weight and purity conversions remain necessary for a specific product.
