An asset is something with economic value; a liability is an obligation. Describe each household asset by its cash flows, resale conditions, custody and costs. A deposit, company share, gold bar and home create different claims. A car also supplies transport while wearing out. The name of an asset class alone cannot tell you whether it fits a particular future expense. Put debts and money needed soon beside the asset list before comparing investments.

Worked example (hypothetical)

A household owns assets valued at 900 million rial and owes 250 million. Net assets are 650 million. A home worth 600 million does not provide 600 million of spendable cash today.

Check your understanding

Write an asset register with value date, ownership evidence and exit cost. Which entry can pay an urgent bill without a forced sale? That is a liquidity question, separate from expected return.
