A New York Meeting Without the Americans: Araghchi Sits Down With the Mediators

According to ISNA, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his delegation are meeting the mediators of the Iran-US talks on Monday morning, 28 September 2026 (6 Mehr 1405), New York time, to review the latest proposals and views on the current situation. Iran's proposal, presented earlier to the US side in the presence of the mediators, offers to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of an agreement to end the war in return for the release of Iran's frozen funds and assets; Donald Trump has said he did not accept it. Araghchi had said Tehran is waiting for definitive views to be relayed through the intermediaries and will not back down on its conditions for reopening Hormuz.
