27 September 2026 · 12 days ago
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in his first response to Donald Trump's rejection of Iran's seven-day plan, said Tehran had heard the US president's reaction but had not yet received anything from the mediators, and would decide once "definitive views" were relayed through them. The remarks were published early on Sunday, September 27, 2026, citing ISNA, and Al Jazeera likewise reported that Tehran is still waiting for an official US response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi said the main line in all of his and the president's meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly was to set out the conditions Iran's Supreme National Security Council has fixed for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and advancing talks, and that the mediators had passed these conditions to the US side. He added that any step forward on reopening Hormuz depends on those conditions being met, and that only a negotiated solution can end the current deadlock.
