Gholamreza Nouri, Iran's minister of agriculture, said on Thursday, 8 Mordad 1405 (30 July 2026), while setting out the results of a joint meeting with members of parliament's Planning, Budget and Audit Committee, that despite economic pressure from the war and higher transport costs, no essential good is being supplied outside market regulation rules, and that oversight by the agriculture ministry, the industry ministry and the Ta'zirat enforcement organisation continues in earnest. The report was published at 11:08am Tehran time.
Explaining the rise in essential goods prices, he said part of it stems from structural reform of subsidy payments, namely moving the subsidy from the start of the supply chain to the electronic food voucher, and part from war conditions and higher international transport costs.
The meeting also covered food security, the state of water and soil, the supply of pesticides and fertiliser, and wheat farmers' outstanding claims. Nouri warned of a gap in capital formation in agriculture, saying the rate of capital formation in the sector is about half its real share of the economy, and asked parliament to close that gap by strengthening development budgets, particularly for water and soil.
