The chief executive of the Iran Airports and Air Navigation Company said on Thursday 30 July 2026 that all of the country's airports have been placed on full alert for Arbaeen flight operations. Morteza Dehghan said airports owned by the company are expected to handle about 65,000 pilgrims this year.
According to the figures released, the Arbaeen operation began on 22 July and runs until 7 August. From 22 July to midnight on Tuesday 28 July 2026, a total of 211 inbound and outbound flight sorties were operated at company-owned airports, carrying 26,836 passengers. Mashhad airport accounted for the largest share, with 151 flights and 18,381 passengers. At Imam Khomeini International Airport, where operations began on 16 July, 384 flights had been operated and 46,429 passengers handled by that date.
Four airports, at Ilam, Abadan, Ahvaz and Kermanshah, act as support airports, receiving pilgrims arriving from other domestic airports and moving them on to the land borders.
