Iran's foreign minister wrote on his personal account on Sunday 26 July 2026 that an attack on an Iranian tanker carried out by Ukraine clearly violates the Charter of the United Nations. He added that the action was taken at Israel's instigation with the aim of drawing Europe into its war, and would not go unanswered.
Attacks on tankers have become one of the principal sources of energy-market risk in the region in recent weeks. As of the time of publication, the name of the vessel, the exact location of the incident and the extent of the damage had not been disclosed, and the Ukrainian side had issued no comment on the accusation.
