Araghchi said the current situation, including insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz, is the direct result of US and Israeli military action that began on 28 February 2026 (9 Esfand 1404), and that what he called the US "breach of commitments" led to the Islamabad understanding being violated less than three weeks after it was signed, with consequences for the whole region and the world. He thanked Turkey for its efforts to strengthen peace in the region and urged regional states not to go along with US military and economic measures against Iran.
The two ministers also discussed bilateral relations and ways to expand exchanges between Iran and Turkey. Turkey is one of Iran's main overland trade routes and outbound flight links under current conditions.
