Al Jazeera reports that the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said at least 12 ships were attacked in or near the Strait of Hormuz in the week to 16 October 2026. The agency warned the true figure is higher because most attacked vessels decline to report. Of the 12, six continued to their destination or reached port, one sank, two were disabled, and three were damaged or had an unconfirmed outcome.

According to Kpler data, oil flows through Hormuz in the seven days to 13 October were 11.6 million barrels per day, about 68 percent of the pre-war 17.1 million. US Central Command's chief said on Friday that 400 ships and 100 million barrels of oil passed through the strait over the past week and that the strait is controlled by the US and regional partners. The IRGC says the strait is unsafe for ships that do not coordinate with Iran, and on Saturday said a supertanker carrying more than 2 million barrels caught fire after hitting a mine. CENTCOM says mines have been cleared and ships are being hit by projectiles. Brent touched $110 on Friday, 16 October, for the first time since May.
