Banks and licensed exchange offices are required to buy back Arbaeen pilgrims' unused Iraqi dinars

Iranian banks and licensed exchange offices have been required to buy back the Iraqi dinars left over from pilgrims who travelled for Arbaeen in 1405. The requirement was reported on Wednesday, 14 Mordad 1405 (5 August 2026), citing the Tasnim news agency.
According to the report, pilgrims wishing to sell their remaining dinars may approach the banking network and licensed exchange offices, where the currency will be bought at a negotiated price. Banks and exchange offices are permitted to purchase the currency under the heading of meeting essential needs.
Applicants were advised to use licensed exchange offices to speed up the process and avoid delays, on the grounds that small scale currency buying and selling fits the business of exchange offices more closely. The purchase rate is negotiated, and no specific figure was given in the announcement.
