Bitcoin's Minority BIP-110 Fork Chain Falls 18 Blocks Behind Main Network After Contested Split
9 August 2026 · 2 months ago
The bitcoin network experienced a chain split at block 961,632 following a contested attempt to activate the BIP-110 proposal, CoinDesk and Arzdigital reported. The Roughnecks mining pool, which backs the upgrade, managed to mine only two blocks on the minority chain, while mining difficulty on that block reached an unprecedented 127.48 trillion, sharply slowing block production given the chain's limited hashing power. As of this report, the minority BIP-110 chain trails Bitcoin's main network by about 18 blocks. Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr warned users who have not updated their software that they remain vulnerable to double spending attacks. CoinDesk reported the fork has scant support among miners.
