Brent's move past $100 pressures US and European stock and bond markets
10 September 2026 · 28 days ago
According to a Donya-e-Eqtesad report citing Bloomberg, published Wednesday, September 9, 2026 (18 Shahrivar 1405), US stocks and government bonds fell as Brent crude extended its rally past 100 dollars a barrel for a fourth straight session amid renewed inflation concerns. S&P 500 futures posted a modest decline and the Nasdaq 100 gave up earlier gains; in Europe, the Stoxx 600 fell 1 percent. The US 10-year Treasury yield rose about two basis points to near 4.81 percent, close to its highest level since 2023. Joachim Klement, an analyst at Panmure Liberum, told Bloomberg that 100 dollar oil has again put inflation pressures back in markets' focus, and that European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde's remarks on Thursday would carry extra weight in the absence of clear guidance from the Federal Reserve. Per the report, money markets were pricing a 60 percent probability of a Fed rate move next week, with Friday's US inflation data seen as decisive for that decision.
